June is here ! Large EBB & floods are all done, more about them on the latest updates, here. First plants in them are actually producing pods already! I didn't follow my original ebb plan exactly, but the idea is basically the same. I will most likely build few more EBB's next year to have even more complete greenhouse. This years goal was to have a hydroponic greenhouse, and I'm quite happy with the results now. I think I've even more pleased in autumn when they start producing some pods! Less than month ago I started cooperation with a local market gardener and we started with the plants immediately. Few days ago Aji Cristals growing in the huge greenhouses look like this. Here's the greenhouse for Aji Cristals.
22.4.2008 Phew! BUSY times in the greenhouse fixing stuff and building new EBB & flood hydroponic systems.
The plan is to fill most of the greenhouse completely with hydroponic system as I had planned a year or two earlier. The large EBB diameter are 15cm depth, 30cm wide and 4 to 4,5 meter long (various sizes). Also, there are few with same diameter except they're 2,5m long. I have filled the first ones with expanded clay and planted first plants there. They look very good, photos coming to next updates.
I might also add a spesific project report about building those EBBs later. There's still so much to do before all plants can start the incredible growth speed! Soil plants will take most of the time... repotting and planting tame takes long. Compared to EBBs, they take almost too much time, I just love hydroponics so much because it's so much easier and so much more effective!
I counted the chile pepper plants few weeks ago and the count was ~750 plants! I have taken plenty of cuttings after that so the total count is somewhere around 800 at the moment! As fellow chileheads might understand, there's so much work to do around them, along with the other projects. Here's a picture of EBB & flood systems in progress:
5.2.2008 Greenhouse season's start is here! Will be very busy times for several months now. I'm currently working on new furnace which hopefully is even more efficient than the last one. It's very close to be finished now and after it is, it's time to clean the warm side of the greenhouse and plant the first plants there! Anyway, here's the plan-sketch fot the new furnace, more pictures will be coming soon, when I have time for that. Perhaps even new project article about it if someone finds it useful?

The year has changed and the germinating projects are doing very nicely. Even the batch of wild chiles germinated with very high percentage! Nearly 200 varieties of chiles already germinated / germinating and next batches will almost double the amount of varieties.

This will probably be the most massive season so far, at least when it comes to the amount of the varieties grown.
I recently wrote a new article about germinating. I've been most successful with germinating in rockwool cubes so I made the article about that: Here's an easy-to-remember address: http://fatalii.net/germinating If that link doesn't work you, access it rom the left menu "how to grow chiles?"
I recently got a LARGE batch of new varieties and species to grow so I have to expand my growing as much as possible. It will be the busiest year ever ahead. There's also another easy-to-remember address, for bonsai chiles: http://fatalii.net/bonsai Again, if that link doesn't work for you, access it via the left menu, same as above.
Few new pics of the bonsai project here:
Here's the latest pic of my just repotted rocoto bonsai that has grown nicely. Still needs to grow some more foliage to get it really nice. CGN 19198 just repotted! Looks much better in a new pot. Have to pruned a lot when the roots have grown. Then it can grow plenty of foliage and after it's pruned back again, it's time to take another photo. :) Seeds for the best bonsai varieties here: http://fatalii.shop.wosbee.com

Germinating has begun! I started germinating slow rocotos and wild chiles at early december.

Within a week I germinate some faster wild chiles and right after that, (1.st january) I start germinating most varieties, including rocotos for large EBB's I planned to have in my greenhouse next season, here's the plan.
Most of the wild chiles and all rocotos have already germinated!
And the bonsai project... ahh, it's really fun stuff! I'm currently waiting for more stuff to arrive for that... pots, wires, soil, tools, books etc. Bonsai hobby & chiles are just a perfect pair! Here's some pics about the progressing bonsais:
 C. lanceolatum setting it's first growth. I'll be pruning this one so the foliage on top will get very dense.
Here's a new one (C. tovarii) just repotted and pruned down. It's very different compared to other ones with very thin stem. I'm sure it will look very good after a month or two. :)
And here's the CGN 19198 growing foliage like a madman. I prune it down approx. once a week.
Here's the updated bonsai article for instructions how to make your own chile bonsais!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

The latest bonsai chile article got so much attention all around the world (more than I ever could have expected!). Therefore, I decided to start a journal to keep track on my current projects, during the winter, it will be mostly about germinating new varieties and the bonsai chile projct. As many chile fans have wished, I try to keep my site as active as possible to keep chileheads visiting here more often. :) Especially chile bonsai fans have been requesting more info about this fascinating project, now I just need to know what kind of information you would like to read.
There's a possibility for a fatalii.net forum (just english) coming soon (again, when all the technical stuff is clear) that will be used for many purposes, discussing about chiles, hydroponics, bonsai chiles, other garden plants like corn, squashes, herbs etc. There will be plenty of growing tips I've learned after all these years. Any questions can be posted directly to forum so that other can read them too. The most important thing with the new forum is to be directly in touch with the browsers of fatalii.net site. Knowing what kind of articles people like to read and see is valuable piece of information for me. That will determine the direction where the site will focus mostly from there.
Also, other information, announcements, contests etc will be posted there. This kind of stuff is always a pain in the ass to publish on other forums, therefore, one forum more, a plain www.fatalii.net -forum. Feel free to discuss any garden plants there, it's not just about chiles, but all kinds of garden plant, equipment etc. related. I'll still mention that it's main purpose is to interact with browsers and co-editors to make the fatalii.net site a better place for all chile (and other) -heads. :) Until that, any suggestions about the site or the incoming forum can be mailed to me at fatalii (at) sci.fi
